Do you ever think about Giving Up?
Giving Up the pursuit of a passion.
Giving Up the search for a partner.
Giving Up (insert whatever here).
We hear a lot about going for the gold.
Being number one.
Persevering to the end.
Making your dreams come true.
The antithesis of Giving Up is a constant theme.
Don’t Give Up.
But what happens when Giving Up is exactly where your thoughts rest?
I know we all want to win.
Yet for every winner there has to be one (or more) losers.
So instead of acting like it doesn’t happen we need to be honest and open.
People not only think about it, but actually Give Up everyday.
We are only human, fallible and mortal.
And once we recognize this and stop downing ourselves for not remaining Upbeat Ursula…
Yeah that names is crazy but you get my point…
We can start to really focus on what we want and how to go about making it happen.
First and foremost we need to ask ourselves some very important questions.
And I take these directly from Avatar: The Last Airbender.
“It’s time for you to look inward and start asking yourself the big question: Who are you and What do you want?” – General Iroh to Prince Zuko
Not who others think you should be or want.
But who YOU truly are and what YOU truly want for yourself.
Once you answer these questions for yourself….and be honest.
Then you may find that Giving Up is exactly what you should do.
Perhaps you have been pursuing something or someone because you felt like it was what you should be doing.
Stop it and Give Up the ghost.
Now that you have stopped wasting time on something/someone you never wanted in the first place.
You can focus on what’s important to you.
And here is where Giving Up actually comes in handy.
I want you to think of all the reason why you might want to Give Up.
All the obstacles and trial you might face on your journey to being and having what you want.
Once you do that, I want you to write a way to get over that obstacle/trial.
Again honesty is important.
Don’t write what you think would help.
Write what you know will work for you.
And if you don’t have a clue, that’s okay.
You don’t have to have all the answers right now.
The important thing is that you recognize that achieving anything that is worthwhile is not easy.
There will be times that you want to Give Up.
And despite what all these so-called experts may say.
Thinking about Giving Up is what winners (not losers) do.
